How does a loyalty program work for a restaurant?

A restaurant loyalty program rewards guests for coming back rather than for spending more on one visit. The guest keeps a stamp card on their phone; at each visit your staff scan the guest's QR code at the till and add a stamp, and after a set number of visits a reward unlocks. TapTime runs the card, the scanning and the statistics from one dashboard.

Most restaurants invest in new guests and little in returning ones.

Advertising, listings and vouchers all cost money to attract new guests. Encouraging existing guests to return more often usually costs far less.

01

Busy weekends can hide quiet weekdays

Growth often comes less from new guests than from existing guests visiting more frequently.

02

Discounts attract one-time visitors

Percentage vouchers can fill a quiet evening, but they reduce the margin and rarely create regular guests.

03

Regular guests are not recognised

Without a record of visits, staff cannot tell a frequent guest from a first-time visitor.

Built around visit frequency: a stamp per visit and a reward when it is earned.

No discount on the bill, but a clear reason to return, and statistics that show whether guests do.

  • A stamp for every visit

Each time a guest pays, your staff scan the code on the guest's phone and add a stamp. After nine visits, or any number you choose, the reward unlocks.

  • A reward rather than a discount

Offer a free dessert, a bottle of house wine or a main course on the ninth visit. You set the reward, its description, the terms and an optional expiry.

  • See whether guests return

Stamp and reward statistics per location show how many guests are collecting, how many are close to a reward and how many rewards were redeemed.

  • Stored on the guest's phone

Guests keep the card on their phone, so it is with them when they decide where to eat.

  • Refer-a-friend program

A refer-a-friend program is part of the module, giving regular guests a reason to bring new ones.

  • Gift cards and promo codes included

Offer gift cards for guests who want to give your restaurant as a present, and promo codes for quieter periods. Both are included at no extra cost.

Launch your loyalty program in three steps.

No hardware, no integration project and no onboarding call. The card is designed in the dashboard and scanned from a phone.

  1. 1

Design the card and the reward

Add your logo and colours, choose the stamp icon and set the rule, for example a free dessert after nine visits. Add terms and an expiry if needed.

  2. 2

Display the QR code where guests pay

Place it on the bill folder, at the host stand or on the receipt. Guests scan it once and the card is saved on their phone, with nothing to install.

  3. 3

    Add stamps and redeem rewards

The guest shows the code, your staff scan it from the dashboard and tap Add a stamp. When the reward unlocks, tap Redeem and it is logged.

Loyalty sign-ups in your ad reports and rewards in your accounts

Every guest who joins, collects stamps or redeems a reward generates an event for your ads, managers and accountant. Included with the loyalty card at no extra cost: no add-on, no higher tier and no fee per stamp or reward.

  • Google Ads
  • Meta
  • Google Analytics 4

Measure ads by new members

The first stamp is sent once as a sign-up: Meta CompleteRegistration and GA4 sign_up, and Google Ads when the guest came from an ad click. Ads Manager can then show the cost per new member.

  • Mattermost

New members and rewards reported to managers

The managers' Slack or Telegram receives each new member and each redeemed reward, with the guest's name and the reward, so you can see how loyalty activity develops day by day.

  • Zapier
  • Make
  • n8n
  • Pipedream

Reward costs in your accounts

Zapier, Make, n8n or Pipedream send each redeemed reward to your accounting tool or a Google Sheet, with no code, so the cost of the program can be compared with revenue.

  • Webhooks
  • REST API

One loyalty view across all restaurants

The REST API reads programs, cards and rewards across every restaurant, and the event feed lists every stamp in order. Signed webhooks send each event to your group's own reporting.

One flat price, with no commission on visits.

49 € a month per location. The card designer, the card on the guest's phone, scanning at the till, statistics, promo codes, gift cards and refer-a-friend are all included. You choose the reward; TapTime takes no share of the bill.

One card is valid at every location, each with its own 49 € subscription managed from one dashboard. Other TapTime modules, such as a QR menu, table reservations or appointments, are priced separately.

Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to install an app?

No. The card is kept on their phone. They scan your QR code once and the card is saved, with nothing to install. If they already have a TapTime card from another business, yours appears alongside it.

Is this a points scheme based on how much they spend?

No. It is a stamp card: one stamp per visit and a reward after the number of visits you set, nine by default. It rewards guests who visit often.

What reward should a restaurant offer?

Choose something with a high perceived value and a low cost to you, such as a dessert, a starter, a bottle of house wine or a main course on the ninth visit. You write the title, description and terms, and can change them at any time.

Can I run it in more than one restaurant?

Yes. One card works at every location in your account, staff are scoped to their own restaurant, and the dashboard shows stamps and rewards per location.

Does it connect to my POS system?

No. TapTime does not integrate with other vendors' point-of-sale systems. Your staff scan the guest's code from the TapTime dashboard on any phone, which takes a few seconds at the till and requires no hardware.

Do gift cards and promo codes cost extra?

No. Gift cards, promo codes and the refer-a-friend program are part of the loyalty module and included in the same subscription, with nothing extra to enable.

What does it cost and is there a contract?

49 € a month per location, paid monthly by card. No contract, no setup fee and no commission on visits or rewards. The first 14 days are free and no card is needed to start.

What happens if I stop paying?

After a short grace period the card is paused and guests see a brief “temporarily unavailable” note on their phone. Nothing is deleted; stamps, rewards and statistics are restored when you reactivate the subscription.

Can restaurant loyalty sign-ups count as conversions in Meta and Google Analytics?

Yes. TapTime reports a guest's first stamp in your program as a sign-up, a Meta CompleteRegistration and a GA4 sign_up, once per member and program, however many cards they fill. Google Ads receives it only when the guest arrived from an ad click.
