The interesting moment in a loyalty program is the last stamp. Here is exactly what happens.
When the card fills
-
1
The card is completed
It stops taking stamps and moves into the guest's history.
-
2
A reward is issued
With its own short code, visible on the guest's phone straight away.
-
3
A fresh card starts
Empty, so the next visit already counts. Nobody has to ask for a new card.
Redeeming
The guest shows their code at the till, your staff open the scan screen, and the reward is there next to their card. Press redeem when you hand it over. It is marked used, at that location, by that member of staff.
Expiry
If you set a lifetime for rewards, the guest sees the date on the reward from the moment it is issued and a reminder reaches them as it approaches. An expired reward cannot be redeemed.
Several rewards at once
A guest can hold more than one unredeemed reward — someone who comes in every day will. Each is separate and redeemed on its own.
Reading the numbers
- Cards started tells you whether people are joining — that is a marketing number.
- Cards completed tells you whether the promise is reachable — that is a design number.
- Rewards redeemed against rewards issued tells you whether your reward is actually wanted.
- Stamps per week per location tells you whether your staff are asking.
Frequently asked
Can a guest give their reward to someone else?
It is redeemed from their app at your till, so in practice they hand over the phone. Whether you allow that is your call at the counter.
Can I issue a reward by hand?
Not directly. Adding the last stamp is the way to complete a card, which most venues find is the honest route anyway.
Do stamps expire?
Stamps do not; only issued rewards can, and only if you set a lifetime.
